I love making crafts and spend a lot of time creating beautiful upcycled things and many of those craft projects require a well known product called Mod Podge. It’s a wonderful product because Mod Podge is a form of Decoupage that is used to make many beautiful craft projects. It is used to adhere things like paper, leaves or fabric to other surfaces and works like a clear glue.
Mod Podge costs about 10$ at most craft stores, so if you love to make crafts and saving some money interests you, this simple homemade DIY Mod Podge Recipe only requires 2 ingredients and works just as effectively as the commercial mod podge you buy at the store but costs under a dollar to make yourself.
What you will need:
- 1 Small Jar (mason jar is perfect)
- 1 Bottle of non-toxic glue (school glue)
- 1/3 cup of water
Directions
- Pour the entire bottle of glue into the jar
- Add the water
- Put the lid on the jar tightly and SHAKE well to thoroughly mix the ingredients
That’s all there is too it!! It works just as well as the store bought variety at a fraction of the cost.
So get out your craft box and paint brush and get busy decoupaging with your homemade DIY Mod Podge!
Please share this recipe with your craft loving friends! They will thank you for it!

You didn’t mention what size bottle of school glue to use, I wouldn’t want to water it down too much..
Hi, it depends on how much Mod Podge you are making.. typically a 4oz bottle is fine. What you want is a 50% glue to 50% water mixture. I like mine a bit thicker than that so my mixture is closer to 75% glue to 25% water. Hope that helps and happy crafting 🙂
